Michelle Scholtes
Digital Communications and Event Coordinator

Michelle Scholtes joined the Geophysical Laboratory in July 2012 as the Web/Departmental Assistant and is currently the Digital Communications and Event Coordinator. As the digital communications coordinator, Michelle acts as the webmaster and is in charge of content management and development, as well as online newsletter production, social media management, conference news coverage, and more. Departmentally, she acts as the campus event coordinator; overseeing seminar coordination and lectures, workshops and symposiums, and outreach; the gas cylinder process/office manager; and administrative assistant. Michelle has a broad range of skills including content management systems and expertise in implementing social media and marketing campaigns. In her spare time, Michelle is a chef/instructor at a local cooking school and the owner/author of Hangry District, a local food blog. Prior to joining Carnegie, she was the office manager and assistant to the president and CFO in the real estate industry, and an account coordinator at public relations consultancies. She holds a B.A. in Public Relations from the University of Maryland, College Park (May 2009).

Sendai, Japan—The Geophysical Laboratory's webmaster and departmental assistant, Michelle Scholtes, was invited to the Advanced Institute for Materials Research at Tohoko University in Sendai, Japan for a foreign exchange of information regarding administrative support in a scientific research institution.  The visit included the exchange of opinions and experiences regarding research support systems at each institute.
