GL alum Sergey Lobanov received official confirmation from the Helmholtz Association this week that he has won the competition for the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group Leaders award. This means that he will receive 1.8 million Euro for 2018-2023 to establish a new group at GFZ (Potsdam, Germany).
His group will be part of a larger group of Dr. Monika Koch-Müller and will collaborate closely with other scientists at GFZ, throughout the Helmholtz Association, as well as with Prof. Max Wilke at the University of Potsdam. Lobanov's group will focus on characterizing key unknown properties of the deep Earth as well as exploring their geophysical significance.
Sergey will start his six-year tenure-track appointment in the summer of 2018. For the same period, he will also be involved in teaching at the University of Potsdam, where he will also seek talent for his group.
Sergey says, "As I see it, my collaboration with the Geophysical Laboratory will also be of critical importance. I hope to keep and strengthen the scientific bonds that I have developed at Carnegie, which will be beneficial for all parties involved. I will always keep the Geophysical Lab close to my heart and hope to remain a good friend of the lab as well. Many thanks for your continuing support."
