The Geophysical Laboratory is pleased to announce the arrival of new Staff Scientist, Dr. Sally Tracy. Sally applies cutting edge experimental and analytical techniques to interrogate the fundamental physical behavior of materials at extreme conditions. Sally uses dynamic compression techniques coupled with high-flux x-ray sources to probe in situ the structural deformation and phase transitions in materials at conditions relevant for impacts and the interiors of terrestrial and exoplanets. Sally is also an expert in nuclear resonant scattering and synchrotron x-ray diffraction and she uses these techniques to probe the local dynamics of materials to understand novel behavior at the electronic level. Dr. Tracy received her PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 2016 and has been a Postdoctoral Scholar at Princeton University the past two years. Please join us all at the Geophysical Lab in welcoming Sally to Carnegie Science!
