Geophysical Laboratory Staff Scientist Dr. Sally June Tracy applies cutting edge experimental and analytical techniques to interrogate the fundamental physical behavior of materials at extreme conditions. Sally uses dynamic compression techniques coupled with high-flux x-ray sources to probe in situ the structural deformation and phase transitions in materials at conditions relevant for impacts and the interiors of terrestrial and exoplanets. Sally is also an expert in nuclear resonant scattering and synchrotron x-ray diffraction and she uses these techniques to probe the local dynamics of materials to understand novel behavior at the electronic level. Dr. Tracy received her PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 2016 and has been a Postdoctoral Scholar at Princeton University the past two years.
